Out of all the different types of body exfoliators, sugar scrubs are at the top of my list. I love scrubs such as Soap and Glory's Breakfast scrub and The Body Shop's Shea Nut Butter Scrub. The problem is that I seem to get through them so quickly as I tend to do a full body scrub twice a week. This is why I decided that it would be a good idea to make my own sugar scrub and I have to say that this feels just as luxurious as the ones I buy and leaves my skin feeling so soft and moisturised!
Honestly I didn't measure anything out as it's very simple to make by eye as you go along. Take a bowl of brown sugar and if you love cinnamon as much as I do, feel free to add cinnamon infused sugar. I just got this tub from Sainsburys and whilst it's lovely on my morning porridge, I knew it would be a lovely touch to my body scrub. I also added a teaspoon of cinnamon just to give it a little extra scent!
Next you will need some coconut oil, I used about three heaped tablespoons. You will need to melt it in the microwave for about 30 seconds and once it is in liquid form, add it to the sugar. I can't explain how much I love coconut oil. Not only does it leave your skin feeling extremely soft and silky, I also use it on my hair once a week. I melt the coconut oil in my hands and smooth it from my roots to my ends and sleep with it in over night. Whilst you may not look your best throughout this process, the outcome is well worth it. After washing your hair in the morning, your hair is left so soft and shiny. It just vastly improves the health of your hair and so encourages it to grow faster. I have also used coconut oil as a make up remover and of course, in cooking as it gives that buttery taste without being unhealthy!
Mix it together so that there is no dry sugar left and that is it, you have your own sugar scrub! I like to keep mine in a jar as it adds that extra luxurious feel to it - and it looks pretty in the bathroom. At the end I added about two teaspoons of Vitamin E oil. This leaves your skin feeling really soft as it is a great moisturiser for your skin. I buy my Vitamin E oil from Holland and Barrett.
Let me know if any of you make this scrub and if you add anything to it to make it your own!
